On Being An Apple

Yes, I admit it: I am an apple. I have always been an apple. Even when I was a little kid with the nickname of "Bones" I still had a pooched out belly and stick legs. It is not easy being an apple, especially an apple at the top of the hill. This year I turn forty and I plan to trim down this apple shape of mine.

A few years ago I inherited my grandmothers photographs. I saw the progression of my grandmother from a thin young lady to a middle aged apple.  In this mix of photos is a photo of her mother and several other rotund ladies from our extended family.  Although, I do believe some of them may have been pregnant at the time it doesn't stop me from freaking out about the similarities. I could fit right into that picture and I am not pregnant. It is time to stop the madness. I would like to take a full length photo on my 40th birthday without propping one of my kids in front of me or deleting half of the party pictures for being unflattering.

Four apples all in a row!

So, my hope is to celebrate food in a healthy way and to make my goals a bit more transparent so that I am accountable.  I am interested in exploring low-carb cooking, clean eating, and raw food.  However, I am still a food lover at heart.  I plan to continue eating meat, making cupcakes for my kids, and indulging in occasional treats.  I just hope to make healthy choices most of the time. This blog will showcase my food adventures and maybe, just maybe, I will whittle my middle in the process.

183 days until my birthday. Wish me luck!
